Highwood USA Receives Local Conservation Award
Published at Aug 24, 2018

Pine Grove- Tuesday evening, the Schuylkill Conservation District held their 2018 Annual Award Ceremony at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. The ceremony celebrates individuals and organizations in the area who contribute to the goals of the conservation district. Those goals include environmental education, erosion and sediment control, watershed protection, AMD remediation and farmland protection.

The Conservation Service Award- Business was awarded to Highwood USA for their use of recycled materials and contributing to the overall goals of the Schuylkill Conservation District.  Sarah Coggiano, HR Generalist, was there to accept the award on behalf of Highwood USA. Presenting awards for the evening was the beloved local conservationist, Patrick M. “Porcupine Pat” McKinney.

The Schuylkill Conservation District’s mission is to remain “dedicated to protect, enhance, restore, and promote the responsible use of the county's natural resources for future generations by partnering, coordinating, and fostering cooperation. This is accomplished with the assistance of public agencies, private groups, and individuals." The organization has dedicated themselves to 63 years of conserving resources. With their ongoing efforts, they have made Schuylkill County a better place to live.

Highwood USA’s motto is “Nature’s Closest Rival.” This is not just a tagline, it is an operating principle. They strive to keep the company as environmentally friendly as possible.  Because of the nature of their lumber, they do not require stains or chemicals and use an increasing amount of recycled materials in order to reduce waste. The company uses solar power for approximately 20% of its energy needs.
